About this project

Three separate pours on one property in Dearborn Heights — a driveway, a back patio and a garage floor — totalling 2,370 square feet over three days. All broom finish, all on a 6-bag 4,000 PSI mix.

The patio is the part worth pointing out. It was brick pavers before, and pavers in Michigan have a predictable arc: the sand joints wash out, weeds find them, and individual units settle at different rates until the surface is uneven underfoot. Converting to a single poured slab removes the joints entirely. We compare the two approaches in concrete versus pavers if you are weighing the same decision.

The garage floor had a crack running clear across the slab with the two sides no longer level — the sort of displacement that means the ground underneath has moved, not that the surface has simply worn. Nothing coats over that. It came out, the base was rebuilt, and it was repoured. Our guide on a cracked garage floor covers how to tell the difference on your own slab.

All the flatwork here was poured with Impede IntraSeal, an integral water repellent mixed into the concrete rather than a topical sealer rolled on afterward. In a climate that puts concrete through freeze-thaw cycling every winter and road salt on top of it, protection that lives inside the slab beats protection that sits on the surface and needs renewing.
